Fake Libertarian Gary Johnson obviously knows his candidacy is a total joke.
It’s been pointed out repeatedly that, for a so-called Libertarian candidate, he’s hanging out with hardcore authoritarians and his policies are shifting about as far away from Libertarian as he can get.
Weld also talks about how AR-15s are essentially weapons of mass destruction, and that handguns are worse. (So much for the Second Amendment there, Mr. Libertarian who only became Libertarian in 2016 for this race but has historically been a liberal Republican with Democratic political support before that.)
The list could go on. He supports the criminalization of all drugs except marijuana. He supports the government giving half a billion dollars to Planned Parenthood. He supports forcing Christian businesses to bake cakes for gay couples. He supports gun control.
Regardless of your personal beliefs on those issues, those stances are decidedly NOT Libertarian. Gary Johnson is a fake Libertarian.
Now, in an interview with MSNBC (video below), Johnson basically makes a mockery of the entire election like he knows his candidacy is a joke.
MSNBC’s Kasie Hunt asked Johnson, “Do you think if you were able to get on the debate stage that you could pull even with Trump and Clinton in these polls?
Johnson replies with a mischievous grin, “I do. And it wouldn’t have anything to do with my debate performance either. It would just be that people would recognize that there’s another choice and that there would be an examination of me and Bill Weld as who we are and what we have done, based on that.”
Yeah, the examination of what they have done so far looks very bad for Libertarians. Continuing —
Then Johnson stuck his tongue out and, awkwardly with it hanging out the whole time, said, “I think I could stand up there for the whole debate and not say anything.”
In other words, Johnson knows he’ll get votes simply because he isn’t Clinton or Trump, no matter what he says or if he says anything at all. And William Weld, lifelong Clinton confidant since the Watergate days, knows those votes are much more likely to get sucked away from Trump than Clinton, ala Ross Perot back in the 1992 Clinton vs. Bush Sr. race because that’s the trend.
In fact, that could be why Weld was placed there and Johnson is even running in the first place. It was Ross Perot’s percentage that ensured Bush Sr.’s loss to Bill Clinton back in 1992.
Ross Perot splitting the vote is part of how Bill Clinton won. Maybe Hillary thinks Gary Johnson is part of how she’ll win, so she asked her lifelong pal Weld to hook her up.
Then again, that’s pretending our presidential elections are real in the first place, and not the rigged dog and pony show bread and circuses that they actually are.
Either way, Johnson has consistently presented himself like a total buffoon with anti-Libertarian stances in this election, and he’s getting more ridiculous as the days tick down to the vote.
