Kelly Thomas was murdered by the very people that were employed to protect him, and the rest of us from harm. What an old fashioned notion that is rapidly becoming. Police who really do protect and serve.

The trial of two former police officers charged with beating a homeless man to death has started in California.

Kelly Thomas, a 37 year old homeless man, was tasered, beaten with batons, and left in a coma. He was removed from life support five days after the incident.

CCTV captured the beating and as such, is likely to form a major part of the evidence against the officers, Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli.

What happened to protect and serve?

There is some evidence that Kelly Thomas was not the gentle, harmless, homeless guy some are portraying him as, but that shouldn’t matter.

Police have multiple options at their disposal. If beating a man to death is the only way they could control the situation, then they shouldn’t have been on the streets in the first place.

Kelly Thomas was murdered by the very people that were employed to protect him, and the rest of us from harm. What an old fashioned notion that is rapidly becoming. Police who really do protect and serve.
