4 Young Girls Fought Off Their Attacker With Coffee

A would-be kidnapper was foiled by a group of brave young girls who fought off the assailant with punches, kicks, and coffee.  With all of the studies coming out saying how good coffee is for your health, here’s one more.

Bruce Hipkins assumed that the four girls he intended to kidnap would be easy targets. According to Newser, Hipkins say the four girls, ages 11, 12, 13, and 14 leaving a gas station convenience store in Millington, Michigan, and approached them saying “You’re coming with me,” as he grabbed the face of one of the girls.

“He said, ‘You’re coming with me.’ And like, he grabbed my face,” 11-year-old Allison Eickhoff told WJRT. “Seeing that your little sister was going to get taken is very scary,” said Allison’s 13-year-old sister, Lauren, who fought back.  Lauren used the only weapons she had: her fists and a steaming hot cup of coffee. “I grabbed my drink and chucked it at his head,” then “punched him in the head,” she says.

As Lauren continued to fight Hipkins, the other three girls joined in kicking and punching him until he released the 13-year-old.  He then grabbed another girl by the hair but “was again kicked and hit by the girls until he let her go and fled on foot,” the police said, according to news reports.

Hipkins was arrested after the girls escaped and called for help from a nearby inn as their attacker fled. Police say surveillance video shows him watching the girls inside the convenience store before following them out. They’d crossed a street to avoid him in what Millington Police Chief Jason Oliver calls the first of many right moves. “They did what they needed to do,” he says. Hipkins is currently in Tuscola County Jail on a $250,000 bond. Per USA Today, he’s wearing a coffee-stained T-shirt in a booking photo. (See above)
