A British woman has decided to have an abortion in order to increase her chances of appearing on a TV show, a decision which highlights the misplaced priorities associated with collapsing societies.

Josie Cunningham, 23, told the Mirror that her decision to end the life of her unborn child was based on her current negotiations with the British television network Channel 5 to appear on its TV show Big Brother, stating that “I’m finally on the verge of becoming famous and I’m not going to ruin it now.”

“An abortion will further my career,” she said. “This time next year I won’t have a baby. Instead, I’ll be famous, driving a bright pink Range Rover and buying a big house.”

“Nothing will get in my way.”

She added that she was on the network’s shortlist to appear on the show until the network’s executives found out she was pregnant.

“Then they suddenly turned cold,” she stated. “That was when I started considering an abortion.”

“After the operation I will be going back to them and asking if they will still consider me.”

So in other words, she’s aborting her baby for an appearance on a TV show which isn’t even guaranteed.

And unfortunately, her misplaced priorities are commonplace in societies which are crumbling under ever-expanding governments funded by deficit spending, such as the United Kingdom and the United States.

Many Americans are similarly obsessed with superficial activities, such as mass consumption, pursuit of fame, celebrity worship, sports and Black Friday sales, a frightening thought considering that the Western Roman Empire soon collapsed once its citizens became distracted with “bread and circuses.”

After the Seattle Seahawks won this past Super Bowl, for example, Seattle residents rioted in the streets, damaging historic buildings and lighting furniture on fire while chanting YOLO: “You Only Live Once.”

And crowds at the most recent Black Friday sales across America didn’t behave much better. In a frantic race for savings on the latest electronic slave goods, shoppers pushed and shoved each other out of the way at retail stores such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart, leading to many arrests and injuries.

One woman even used a stun gun on another during the Black Friday 2013 sale inside a mall in Philadelphia.

Yet in complete contrast, the violent riot that broke out in China this past weekend was not due to a sporting event or a retail sale but because municipal police reportedly killed a photographer with a hammer.

Citizens in Spain, Greece and a host of other countries have also rioted due to government abuses in the past few years.

But for the time being, most Americans are only getting animated from “bread and circuses,” and unfortunately time may be running out.

Last month, a new study funded by NASA revealed that civilization could collapse within the coming decades, pointing out that “the process of rise-and-collapse is actually a recurrent cycle found throughout history.”

So by looking at Roman history, the mass decadence occurring now may be a sign of what’s to come.
