Watch: Man Sets Up “Dream” Proposal Surprise to Look Like He’s About to be Shot by Cops

An Alabama man has received a huge backlash after his “dream proposal” went viral. What kind of dream? Try the nightmare where the man you love ends up possibly shot dead by police.

Alabama resident Daiwon McPherson decided the most romantic way he could propose to his girlfriend Shawna Blackmon would be to fake a potentially deadly standoff with police in Mobile.

He lured Blackmon to a gas station under the guise he was late for a date because he’d been pulled over by the cops. When she showed up, a crowd was gathered, cop car flashers were blaring, and two police had tasers drawn at McPherson, yelling at him to put down his weapon.

The whole scene — a black man on the ground being screamed at by two white cops to get on the ground and disarm — looks like a lot of the police shooting horror stories we’ve seen in recent years just waiting to happen.

When Blackmon got between her boyfriend of six years and the seemingly angry officers who ordered her to “get his gun,” McPherson offered her a ring instead.

Now that a lot of angry people have called attention to the fact that police state violence is a serious issue this guy took waaay too lightly making a prank out of for a proposal, McPherson has responded his stunt was to “strengthen the relationship between the biker community and the police” (via Vibe):

“I really wanted to bring the bike life and the police together,” he said. “I can’t believe I actually pulled this off.”

His girlfriend-turned-fiancée, however, said she was afraid he was going to be gunned down by police (via WMPI):

“I was scared I said he was going to jail, they are going to shoot him,” Blackmon said.

Aw, how unabashedly romantic.

Also… What in the hell is wrong with people???
