US Government Supports Freedom Abroad but Tyranny at Home

Yesterday the United States was accused of having contractors from the security company Greystone Ltd. on the ground in Ukraine. Today they are accused of supplying Syrian rebels with advanced weaponry. It makes you wonder what type of US interference is going to make the news tomorrow.

Rebels embattled against the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad have reportedly come into possession of high-powered anti-tank weaponry, the likes of which may have been supplied by the United States.

Images of rebels equipped with heavy arms have begun to circulate in recent days, and at least one news site has claimed that the source responsible is the US government.

On Monday, Israel’s Debkafile website reported that two moderate Syrian rebel militias — the Free Syrian Army and the Syrian Revolutionary Front — have been supplied with advanced US weapons, including armor-piercing, optically-guided BGM-71 TOW missiles, thanks to the Pentagon.

According to Debkafile’s report, US Gen. Martin Dempsey — the chairman of the Joint Chiefs — asked officials in Israel last week to help get Saudi Arabian fighter jets stationed at the kingdom’s Faisal Air Base at Tabuk near Jordan positioned in a manner that would provide air cover as American forces moved the weapons into southern Syria. Debkafile attributed the claims to unnamed military sources.

Late last month, the Wall Street Journal reported that US President Barack Obama and Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah “appeared to narrow their disagreement on assisting Syrian rebels” amidst a meeting between the two. According to the Journal’s report, Obama administration officials said the meeting ended with the White House agreeing to increase its level of assistance to Syrian rebels.

“Senior US officials said their goal is to provide assistance to moderate Syrian rebels not just as a ‘counterweight’ to the Assad regime, but also to extremist elements of the opposition,” Carol Lee and Ellen Knickmeyer wrote for the paper.

In a country where tens of millions of people can barely afford to eat, where the only real jobs being created are low-paying and part-time, you would think that the government would be more concerned with sorting out the problems at home than supplying top of the range weaponry to a bunch of “freedom fighters” half a world away.

The hypocrisy of supporting others under the guise of abolishing tyranny when at the same time it suppresses the basic rights of American citizens disgusts me as it disgusts most right minded people.

How can a country that talks of freedom, human rights, and abolishing tyranny do the things our government does? In no particular order, our government:

• Listens into private conversations and spies on our electronic communications.
• Watches us from cradle to grave with security cameras.
• Allows police officers, upholders of the law, to walk free after committing murder?
• Undermines our freedom of speech.
• Intends to deprive us of our constitutional right to bear arms.
• Introduces legislation to prevent us from eating nutritious whole foods such as raw milk.
• Prevents our children from going to school without government mandated vaccinations.
• Allows a foreigner of indeterminate faith to become president.
• Allows a private bank to control the money supply.
• Allows Terrible Sexual Assaults to take place in public without due cause.
• Tries to prevent the use of marijuana for medical use but licences a drug so dangerous doctors warn of the kill potential.
• Puts United States citizens on no-fly lists without just cause.
• Take children from loving parents because they oppose conventional medical care.
• Supplies cash and food aid to far away lands when millions of its own citizens can barely feed their families.

I could go on like this all day, but we all have other things to do so I’ll leave it at that.

The point is that the citizens of the United States are having their basic and fundamental freedoms consistently eroded while our government runs speedily to assist shadowy groups in other nations, eager to help them get the rights we are being deprived of.
