The NFL Will Use Week 4 To Raise Money For Puerto Rico Relief Efforts

While many Americans are boycotting week 4 of the National Football League because they are offended by players’ kneeling during the national anthem, the organization will be raising money for those who lost everything during the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

It certainly appears that the NFL is taking the high road. The announcement comes after President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday night that food and water were on the way to a devastated Puerto Rico and that the U.S. territories’ debts of “billions of dollars” to Wall Street “must be dealt with.”

He seems to lack a certain amount of empathy for those affected by Hurricane Maria, as he focuses his attention on athletes who hurt his feelings by not acting the “right way” during the national anthem. So those same people, who many in the US are boycotting because like Trump, felt their feelings get hurt, are going to use the game to give back to those in Puerto Rico.

The NFL announced it will use Week 4 games/broadcasts to raise money and awareness for the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico.

The NFL will lead a fundraising effort during Thursday night’s game in order to help those who are without the basic necessities thanks to Hurricane Maria’s wrath.

Details of the fundraiser have yet to be announced by the league, but will be forthcoming. The effort will be a partnership with CBS, which will be broadcasting the game between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, and Amazon, which will stream the game. The NFL has said that they will also donate money to the relief efforts, although they have yet to announce a dollar amount.

In spite of the boycotts, the NFL is doing the right thing to help others.
