A recent explosion of growth in the phenomenon known as “Prepping” has seen thousands of Americans join the ranks of those anticipating everything from an economic collapse to a complete meltdown of civilization. Though not everyone within the prepper community agrees on exactly what might happen, most feel strongly that life as we know it could abruptly come to an end at almost any time. In light of this, Guerrilla Media, LLC – a small Florida start-up has launched an ambitious project to create a videogame app targeted directly at the prepper community. The name? ZOMBIE PREPPER.

“We were really inspired by the Documentary COLLAPSE and the Discovery Channel show, THE COLONY. We wanted to make something that people could really use to game-plan a breakdown of society. ZOMBIE PREPPER will be more than just an app. It will be an immersive role playing game that lets each player prepare for an impending apocalypse and then test their preps against the events that would unfold in such a scenario.” Says Nick Burch, lead developer behind the concept. “Not only will this game familiarize people with the idea of prepping, it will help them catalog and track their real-life preps and earn points and achievements for them. Like Foursquare for preppers.”

Zombie Prepper is a thrilling and immersive game that combines the real-world of disaster preparedness (aka ‘PREPPING’) with a fictional storyline about a complete collapse of industrialized civilization via a zombie holocaust. Players can opt to play in a ‘real world’ mode where their actual preparations factor into the game or ‘simulator’ mode, which will offer all the fun and excitement without having to do it for real. Regardless of how you choose to play, the information tactics and techniques you use to prep and survive in the game will be based on real-world scenarios. Our goal with Zombie Prepper is to make learning how to be prepared for anything FUN!

When asked how the app will work, Clint Weldon, head writer for the story had this to say; “The app will have two modes – ‘game mode’ and ‘life mode.’ Game mode will be based around a complete collapse of civilization brought on by a powerful virus that wipes out mankind. As events unfold, water will stop flowing, the power grid will go down and society will, in general, fall apart step by step.  ‘Life mode’ will act as a digital checklist and guide, giving tips and suggestions to people on how to prepare as well as keeping track of things they’ve already done – a powerful organizational tool. As they prepare, achievements will be awarded.”

The duo has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund development of the app. Supporters who donate will be able to pre-purchase the app by making a small donation.
