A video released by the Taliban in the last 24 hours shows the moment that U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was handed over to U.S. Forces.
The Pentagon has said that it has no reason to deny the authenticity of the video, which shows a seemingly healthy Bergdahl in a remote region of Afghanistan being released to American forces who arrived via Black Hawk helicopter.
According to a statement from President Obama on the release, Bergdahl was in such bad shape that it was urgent that he be released into U.S. custody immediately. This has been one of the key reasons cited by the administration for circumventing Congressional approval for the exchange that led to five high-risk militant terrorists being freed from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility by the U.S. government.
