M8 Flare recorded at 04:32 UT

Sunspot AR1890 continues to grow and is currently Earth facing. So far the flares it produces have been brief, the latest lasted just about a minute. This means there is less chance of them affecting life on Earth that strong and long flares would.

NOAA says that this could change and that more strong flares are in the offing. They estimate a 60% chance of M-class flares and a 20% chance of X-class in the next 24 hours.

Todays sunspot number is 159.
