Space Weather: 25% Chance of M-Class Flares Today

A coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth’s magnetic field on April 13th. The impact was not a strong one; geomagnetic activity never crossed storm thresholds. Nevertheless, the impact sparked auroras photographed in several northern-tier US states.

Todays sunspot number is 99. NOAA estimates a 25% chance of M-Class flares during the next 24 hours and a 0.1% chance of X-class flares during the same period.

A coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth’s magnetic field on April 13th. The impact was not a strong one; geomagnetic activity never crossed storm thresholds. Nevertheless, the impact sparked  auroras photographed in several northern-tier US states.
