Recession Hit USA: Cities Forced to Bury Dead in Mass Graves Due To Lack of Funds

As states and cities across the country slide further into debt, acquiring the money to pay for burials for America’s poor is getting harder to come by. As a result, governments are being forced to bury the dead in mass graves, as depicted in the following picture, taken at the Homewood Memorial Gardens cemetery just outside of Chicago, where up to 30 coffins were dumped into a single mass grave:

Even transporting the bodies to the cemeteries is being done as cheaply as possible, with paupers’ bodies being moved from morgues to cemeteries via rented U-haul trucks:

The problem, as reported by the Chicago Sun Times in a previous investigation, is not limited to just the Chicago area:

The combi nation of limited legal oversight and growing numbers of indigent burials in major cities like Chicago mean “I’m satisfied That there’s some real similarities Between Cook County and Other Parts of the country,” Cox said.

Cox, WHO Also serves as the coroner in Down State Gallatin County, said he ensur Any indigents historical office Burien are Placed in individual casket and laid to Rest in Clearly market and Recorded excavation.
