Producer of “Innocence of Muslims” Arrested in California

Apparently the producer of the controversial film “The Innocence of Muslims” does exist – because federal agents arrested him today.

Many have questioned whether or not the film actually existed, since only trailers were available.

Casting even more doubt, the script was supposedly written and directed by Sam Bacile,  a person who claimed to be Israeli.  Basile claimed the movie was funded by 100 Jewish donors.  However, Israel denied any knowledge or record of Sam Basile.  The Directors Guild of America has no “Sam Basile” listed as a member. There were also no records on Sam Basile in California, where he claimed to reside.

Riots broke out worldwide in protest when a trailer of the film became available online.  The film casts a very negative light on Islam’s prophet Muhammad, portaying him as a necrophile, a homosexual, and a pedophile.

Since it’s America, with free speech guaranteed by the Constitution, the producer was not arrested for creating a film that has indirectly caused the death of a US ambassador and 3 others, as well as violent protests from Islamic communities around the world. That, of course, would be unconstitutional.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula was arrested for violating the terms of his probation – he had been convicted of bank fraud for a check kiting scheme, and sentenced  in June 2010 to 21 months in prison and 5 years of probation.

The terms of his probation included prohibitions on his use of the internet, as well as on the use of aliases.  Nakoula used the name “Sam Bacile” in conjunction with his film. The Youtube trailer put Nakoula in violation of the internet usage restriction.

Nakoula  has been in hiding since the violence related to the trailer broke out. He is being held in Los Angeles jail until bail can be set.
