With the NSA scandal still reverberating, Facebook has revealed it had received between 9,000-10,000 requests from the government in the second part of 2012.

Microsoft has also revealed that they have had approximately 6,500 requests for information on account holders. These two incidents alone equate to data requests on tens of thousands of accounts, the Microsoft requests alone covering around 31,000 accounts.

“Transparency alone may not be enough to restore public confidence, but it’s a great place to start” said John Frank, Microsoft Vice-President, in an attempt to reassure customers.
