Up to 20 people have been stabbed at Franklin Regional High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. One person, believed to be a student at the school, was taken into custody by the police. The wounded range between 14 and 21 years-old. Several are seriously injured and are undergoing surgery at local hospitals.
Referring to seven people who suffered wounds to their torso, Dr. Chris Kaufman of Forbes regional Hospital said:
“These are all significant stab wounds,” In addition he said several were either in the operating room or being prepped for surgery.
“A critical incident has occurred at the high school,” school officials wrote in a bulletin. “All elementary schools are cancelled, the middle school and high school students are secure.”
Jeff Dahlke who works for the security company employed by the school said:
“The alarm went off, and students started rushing outside, the security guard outside rushed in, and came upon his supervisor, and an assistant principal who had the suspect in custody on the ground and was trying to control him, and try to get the weapons away from him,”
Dozens of ambulances and three medical helicopters ferried the injured from the scene.
