If Almost All The ‘Experimental’ Ebola Vaccines Go To Africa What Do We Have To Treat Ebola Patients At Home?

I am all for international co-operation in a crisis but I am getting increasingly confused by the attitudes and actions of the powers that be.

First, for years we are told that there is nothing even in the planning stage that will help fight Ebola.

Then, all of a sudden, drugs that supposedly take years to produce, start popping up like weeds, enough that Canada can send 1000 doses over to Africa.

Then we have ZMapp, and another I’d not heard of until today, TKM-Ebola. (source)

Now here’s where it gets really confusing. Not only does the USA, and some European countries bring Ebola patients home from Africa instead of treating them where they are, but they then say that they are sending ZMapp, one of the drugs out to Liberia, when there are only 12 doses available.

The makers of ZMapp have said, on record:

“The available supply of ZMapp has been exhausted. We have complied with every request for ZMapp that had the necessary legal/regulatory authorisation. TheDrug has been provided at no cost in all cases.” (source)

Okay. So, Canada is holding a small reserve to continue working on their drug and Mapp Pharmacetuticals has sent their last 12 doses to Liberia knowing that it takes months to make more of the stuff.

Right. That makes sense.

ZMapp, which has been given to three people so far, two aid workers flown to Atlanta and a priest flown to Madrid, has not at this point been proven to work, the priest died yesterday but so far the aid workers continue to improve.

Either there is far more of these medications around than people are letting on, or, the only glimmers of hope we have are currently winging their way towards Africa as I type.

I was always taught that if something looks like horse shit and smells like horse shit it usually is horse shit.
