Democrats Skipped Out on Benghazi Hearing; Refused to Hear Testimony of Victims’ Families

Patricia Smith’s son, Sean Smith, was one of the four Americans killed last year when the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya was attacked.

She said she was promised a detailed accounting of the night’s events, which she still hasn’t received.

Back in May, after congressional hearings into the administration’s response to the attack on an American consulate in Benghazi, Smith told CNN host Jake Tapper:

I begged for answers. When I was there at the casket ceremony, Obama and Hillary and Biden and Panetta and several more said that they would check into it and let me know. Not one of them has called me. None. They don’t care. I’m not important to them. There’s other people that are important to them – themselves, pretty much.

On Thursday, Smith finally got the chance to be heard when she attended a House Oversight and Government Reform hearing about Benghazi on Capitol Hill.

She delivered a passionate and emotional speech, in which she described how she has been ignored by the State Department in her requests for information and answers about her son’s death:

Powerful and moving, right?

Too bad most of the Democrats on the committee didn’t stick around to hear it.

The majority of Democrats (12 out of 14) on the committee left the room and refused to listen to the testimony of Patricia Smith and Charles Woods (Charles Woods is the father of Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, who was also killed in Benghazi).

Democrats claim the Benghazi incident was the type of tragedy that happens in a dangerous world. They say House Republicans are spending time and energy on Benghazi while ignoring issues like legislation to prevent a pending government shutdown.

Rep. Darrell Issa, Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, told Smith and Woods that he is not satisfied with the administration’s responses and promised not to end the committee’s investigation “until all your questions are answered.”

Smith said that every time she sees television images of the compound in Benghazi, “I see those bloody fingerprints going down the wall,” she said. “I ask them (do) those belong to my son, and they can’t tell me.”

“They said they would get back to me,” she said. “I don’t trust my government anymore because they lied to me.”
