Congress Protects the Grid and Creates Millions of Jobs at the Same Time

Yesterday the Wall Street Journal reported a domestic terrorism attack on a California substation. You can read about that here. Today they are reporting that congressional leaders from both sides of the political divide want to impose federal standards to protect the power grid from physical attack.

Lets do that last bit again because I really like it.

To protect the power grid from physical attack.

This is the best news we’ve had in years. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of jobs are going to be created in one go. Unemployment will be a thing of the past. The boom years will return.

I am sure that all the bright, intelligent, sensible people that rule over us are aware that to physically protect something you have to be there, in person.

OR, you have to cover up the item you are trying to protect, you have to hide it, like put it in a safe or something.

OR, you have to build a big fence or a wall, or something like that to stop people physically attacking whatever it is you are trying to protect.

Now, whichever option they choose, though I think the safe is unlikely, will create a quadzillion jobs across the country. There will be hundreds of thousands of security guards required, they will all need uniforms, and there will need to be logos on their vehicles, and more guns will be needed, and more ammo.

If they go for the fence or wall option, raw materials will be needed, factories will be needed, people to work in the factories, people to haul the stuff to the sites, people to build the barriers that will physically protect the grid from harm.

It needn’t stop there. There could be jobs created by putting locks on all the manhole covers to stop people lifting them and getting in to cut phone wires. Then you would need around the clock crews to unlock them for the maintenance workers to gain access.

All of this activity will have to be logged and noted…in triplicate so there’s going to be filing clerk positions, general admin, and managers, lets not forget the managers.
