The Holiday weekend brought misery to numerous families in Chicago. Police responded to dozens of calls that left at least ten dead and more than 50 wounded in a spate of shootings across the city. Two children, aged 5 and 7, were amongst those seriously wounded.
The gun control lobby is using the violence to push forward legislation. Governor Pat Quinn (D-Illinois) said:
“That ought to be an alarm bell to all of us that we need strong laws that protect the public safety, especially when it comes to guns,” he told reporters after speaking at a church on the city’s West Side on Sunday.
“It’s time to end the violence,” he added.
Quinn also wants a state-wide ban on assault weapons and a one-gun limit on personal carry. In addition he wants guns banned entirely from any premises that hold a alcohol license. (Source)
