Cards Against Humanity’s Weed Pack Is The One Party Favor That Can Help Illinois Legalize

Cards Against Humanity — the same company responsible for digging a gaping if ‘pointless’ hole, using well over $100,000 in crowdsourced funds, on Black Friday last year, then filling it in — has now upped the irreverent ante in the Illinois fight to legalize cannabis, with the rollout of a supplemental “Weed Pack” for its eponymous game.

Indeed, Cards Against Humanity has already donated at least $70,000 to the Marijuana Policy Project, and plans to fork over all proceeds from the new deck toward the Illinois legalization endeavor.

“We’re proud to support the Marijuana Policy Project because our current marijuana laws are failing,” proclaimed Jo Feldman, head writer for Cards Against Humanity, in a statement at the beginning of the month.

“Nationally there are more arrests for marijuana possession each year than for all violent crimes combined. The MPP has been at the forefront of changing marijuana laws for the better, in Illinois and nationwide.”

Pro-cannabis Illinois residents are pushing elected politicians for a vast expansion of tightly-controlled medical marijuana regulations in place for several years — opening up the market for recreational users and tourists — and removing ubiquitously violent policing from the equation.

Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada benefited handily from MPP’s assistance subverting federal prohibition at the state level to make cannabis freedom in recreational sales a reality — now, Cards Against Humanity and wants the same help toward victory in Illinois.

“Right now,” The Cannabist reports, “MPP is working with local politicians to make Illinois the first state to legalize recreational marijuana through the state legislature. Lawmakers are currently considering twin bills in the Senate and House that would allow adults 21 or older to grow, possess and buy marijuana for recreational consumption. The bills stand a decent chance of passing given the state’s remarkable progress with marijuana reform. Illinois legalized medical marijuana in 2013, decriminalized cannabis in 2016 and is now using that momentum to push for legalization in 2017.”

Should Illinoisans succeed in bringing legal weed to their hometowns, the state would join Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and the altogether ironic — given that federal cannabis prohibition is still a thing — the swampy pit known as Washington, D.C.

Unsurprisingly for anyone familiar with Cards for Humanity, the actual game, company writers have snarked themselves into the political spotlight before — not only with the livestreamed, contracted hole, theorized to be a hat-tip to Black Friday consumerism’s vacuous premise — but, as NBC News notes, the “company has made some pretty serious waves in recent months, including trying to lure former President Barack Obama into becoming the company’s CEO and for threatening to buy and publish the browser history of every member of Congress as a protest against the potential rollback of net neutrality protections.”

Horrible,’ interested people can find the Cards Against Humanity special edition “Weed Pack” in the company’s online store.

“Also,” added Feldman, the writer, in typical Cards Against Humanity fashion, “I could really go for a bean chalupa.”
