BREAKING: King Obama Strips Washington Redskins of their Trademark

After enormous pressure with both written letters as well as the constant attack on the Washington Redskins in the media by the intolerant and divisive progressives, led by Barack Obama himself, the U.S. Patent Office released the news today that it is cancelling the trademark of the Washington Redskins, the NFL’s third most value franchise. Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder would not bow down and cave to the enormous pressure of the political correctness police. Although the team has had the same name since 1933, the Progressive led PC and thought police have ramped up their fight against the team’s name, claiming that it is offensive to Native Americans. A recent survey by the far-left Annenberg Foundation, however, proves that notion to be completely untrue. According to their survey, 90% of Native Americans surveyed did not find the name offensive.

The Left constantly wants to tout the majority opinion, even when their claims are not supported by actual facts. In the case of whether the Washington Redskins should change their name, one that was bestowed upon them in honor of their then coach, Lone Star Dietz, 71% of those polled believed the Redskins should keep their name.

But, in a day when political elitists determine what is acceptable thought and the weight of the federal government is used to control thought and actions, as in the case of Obama’s IRS threatening, intimidating, and harassing Tea Party groups, this is the type of tyranny that occurs.

ESPN reports on this decision by Obama’s Treasury Department to cancel the trademarks for the Washington Redskins, which they have held since the 1960s.

The U.S. Patent Office has ruled the Washington Redskins nickname is “disparaging of Native Americans” and that the team’s federal trademarks for the name must be canceled.

The 2-1 ruling comes after a campaign to change the name has gained momentum over the past year. The team doesn’t immediately lose trademark protection and is allowed to retain it during an appeal.

ESPN also reported that “while the Redskins name and past logos are involved, the trademarks that were canceled do not include the current Redskins logo.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, attempts to strip the Redskins of their trademark began in 1992. However, as Barack Obama threw the weight of the presidency behind the pressure to deny the team of their trademark, the pressure intensified to make that happen.

Stripping the Redskins of their trademark directly threatens the financial interests of the club.

The decision means that the team can continue to use the Redskins name, but it would lose a significant portion of its ability to protect its financial interests. If others printed the name on sweatshirts, apparel, or other team material, it becomes more difficult to go after people who use it without permission.

The NFL splits revenue from team merchandise sales and licensing 31 ways (the Cowboys have their own deal). In the end, if the Redskins lose money from losing their trademarks, the entire league will lose money — and then it no longer just is about the Redskins and their name, but it’s about all of the other teams in the NFL (except the Cowboys) losing money. That issue could bring a lot more pressure on Snyder about the name of the team.

With the intimidation of Tea Party groups by the IRS for daring to express their dissent against the policies of Barack Obama, many individuals faced personal or business audits in addition to the prolonged wait for 501c4 approval. It looks like a similar tactic is being used to strong-arm Dan Snyder and the Washington Redskins organization to succumb to the pressure of the PC police – either fall in line, or experience your economic livelihood and freedoms being threatened.
