Bernanke Is Pissed About $10 Bill Change

Last month, the Woman On 20s campaign conducted a poll to see which famous American woman should replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. Just a few weeks after Harriet Tubman won the vote, Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew announced that there will be a female portrait change on America’s currency. However, he has decided that instead of Andrew Jackson, Alexander Hamilton is going to get the axe.

As any student of history would expect, the statists are outraged over this decision, chief among them is former Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke. Earlier today, he shared his concerns in an article written for the Brookings Institute, saying “I must admit I was appalled to hear of Treasury Secretary Jack Lew’s decision last week to demote Alexander Hamilton from his featured position on the ten-dollar bill.”

It’s not surprising that a Fed Chairman would feel this way. Hamilton played a significant role in creating the all-powerful government we have today, and he championed the creation of America’s first central bank. Jackson on the other hand hated paper currency, and was responsible for ending the Second Bank of the United States, which he felt was a corrupt financial institution. He refused to renew its charter in 1836, and it would be the last time America had a central bank until the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913. Bernanke though, does make one good point. ” Given his views on central banking, Jackson would probably be fine with having his image dropped from a Federal Reserve note.”
