AG Sessions Gears Up To Crack Down On Marijuana

Attorney General Jeff Sessions continues to make himself the laughing stock of the government – and that’s saying a lot considering Donald Trump is the president. The Attorney General is now gearing up for a crackdown on marijuana, and it’s not hard to realize why he isn’t being taken seriously.

In an effort to reduce the number of “violent crimes,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions is getting ready to crack down on marijuana growers, sellers, and users, according to numerous reports. He’s going to ramp up efforts by the government and send their hired thugs to beat and imprison people for smoking and growing plants.

Back in April, Sessions asked the Task Force to come up with a Reduction and Public Safety Issue by July 2017. The fear of an even more brutal police state is now coming front and center.

The director of the Brennan Center’s Justice Program told The Hill, “Sessions and other DOJ officials have been out there over the last month and explicitly the last couple of weeks talking about how immigration and marijuana increases violent crime we’re worried there’s going to be something in the recommendations that is either saying that that’s true or recommending action be taken based on that being true.”

In the April memo, Sessions wrote, “Task Force subcommittees will also undertake a review of existing policies in the areas of charging, sentencing, and marijuana to ensure consistency with the Department’s overall strategy on reducing violent crime and with Administration goals and priorities.” He asked that these recommendations be sent to him no later than July 27, a date which is quickly approaching.

Criminal justice reform advocates fear Sessions’ memo signals stricter enforcement is ahead. That’s the logical conclusion considering Sessions’ stance on marijuana. Not exactly an advocate for freedom, Sessions has been regularly coming down on the side of totalitarianism when it comes to recreational and medical marijuana use.

“From a practitioner’s point of view, marijuana is not a drug that doesn’t have some danger to it, but it’s not the drug that’s driving violent crime in America,” said Ronal Serpas, the former superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department and co-chairman of Law Enforcement Leaders to Reduce Crime and Incarceration. “That’s not the drug with which we see so much death and destruction on the streets of America. Crack and powdered cocaine, heroin and opioids is where we’re seeing people die on street corners fighting over territory or control.”

President Trump said during his campaign he wouldn’t interfere with state’s rights when it comes to marijuana. However, the president has had a complicated history regarding his stance on several issues, and this one is rather muddied.

“In terms of marijuana and legalization, I think that should be a state issue, state-by-state,” Trump said in an interview with The Washington Post. “… Marijuana is such a big thing. I think medical should happen — right? Don’t we agree? I think so. And then I really believe we should leave it up to the states.” But, Trump also called Colorado’s legal marijuana industry a “real problem.”

Looks like the government is intent upon harassing otherwise peaceful people for doing nothing more than owning a plant. So much for that all that freedom we are constantly told we have so much of…
