Three Women Rescued After Spending 30 Years as ‘Slaves’

Authorities have rescued three women that were allegedly submitted to forced labor and domestic servitude from a property in Lambeth, south London.

Can you imagine spending your entire life in one house? No trips out, no interaction with outsiders, not experiencing the freedom to walk up the street.

Yet another case of women being kept prisoners in a house, this time in London, is emerging. Three women, one of them believed to have been born in the house, have been rescued by police.

While details are sketchy at this point, the women are said to be highly traumatized after their ordeal. (source)

The case bears similarities to several other cases in recent years: The Ohio hostages, the Fritzl case in Austria and the Jaycee Dugard case are all similar in that women were held prisoner and gave birth to a child while in captivity.

Are these cases a sign that we no longer know enough about our neighbors, that we are so disconnected from our communities that we fail to recognize when something is amiss?
