These guys really justify their jobs in these Senate committee hearings, don’t they? Talk about a headline that gives you the warm and fuzzies!

These guys really justify their jobs in these Senate committee hearings, don’t they? Talk about a headline that gives you the warm and fuzzies!

The defense structure wants you to be afraid… be very, very afraid. Apparently it isn’t bad enough that the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper claims ISIS is now a “preeminent global threat” that should attack America any day now.

In a recent Senate Armed Services Committee known as the annual “worldwide threats” hearing… a hearing they apparently have every year now, in case you didn’t know… Clapper claims America now faces a “litany of doom”.

Cue the horror film music dun dun DUUUUUN (via LA Times):

In what he called a “litany of doom,” Clapper outlined a diverse list of threats facing the United States, including terrorism, cyberattacks sponsored by China and Russia, drug trafficking, missile tests by Iran and continued enrichment of nuclear material by North Korea.

Violent extremists are active in about 40 countries, he said, including seven that are experiencing a collapse of central government authority and 14 others threatened by conflict.

Seven countries are facing a collapse of their central government authority? Regime changes, perhaps? Ya don’t say. It’s funny how Clapper says that like the American government was just an innocent bystander that had nothing to do with any of it.

Clapper went on to note that there are more cross-border military operations going on in the Middle East now than any time since the 1973 Arab-Israeli war, and that ISIS is going to not only attack the U.S. soon, but it will likely be through homegrown extremists:

The group’s “leaders are determined to strike the U.S. homeland, beyond inspiring homegrown extremist attacks,” Clapper said.

So there you go. ISIS is coming, and litany of doom already sounds bad enough, but Senator King of Maine (I) had to go and one-up Clapper, claiming we are talking about a “tidal wave of death” here:

“A tidal wave of death is what we are talking about,” King said. “This is killing people now in the United States in every state. It is not an abstract concern.”

It’s like Lady Gaga concerts where she to keep upping the crazy antics to stay relevant.

ISIS global threat, homegrown extremist attacks, war everywhere, litany of doom, tidal wave of death. Got it. And now you know how they justified spending $573 billion on the 2016 defense budget.
