A white Minnesota security officer confessed that he made up a story about a black man shooting him to cover up the fact that he shot himself, officials said earlier this week.

Brent Patrick Ahlers, a security officer for St. Catherine University, now faces charges for filing a false police report and for committing a misdemeanor, reports the Minneapolis Tribune. He was released from jail Thursday after being booked.

“He was nervous about losing his job due to the fact that he had his gun at work, and what had occurred, so he made up the story to cover what had happened,” police spokesman Mike Ernster told local media Wednesday.

Ahlers was guarding the St. Catherine University campus when the gun he was carrying discharged, wounding him in his shoulder Tuesday night. The school’s security guards usually don’t carry guns on the campus, so Ahlers made up a story about a black man shooting him out of fear he would get fired over the incident. He told the St. Paul Police Department that a black man in a navy sweatshirt had shot him.

Out of concern for student safety, the police placed the campus on lockdown in an effort to search for the black man with a “short afro,” as Ahlers described him.

“It had basically 1,800 students held captive in their dorm rooms at St. Catherine’s, it had residents of the Mac-Groveland and Highland Park communities fearing they would be hurt in their homes,” Ernster told the public.

Fifty-five police officers, along with K-9 dogs, searched the campus and the surrounding community for the mysterious black gunman late Tuesday night. The search continued into Wednesday, when Ahlers told officers that he had accidentally shot himself.

The local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) said that the incident just further reinforces racial stereotypes about black men.

“That’s what black people live with,” said Dianne Binns, president of the St. Paul NAACP. “We’ve been lynched, and we’ve been put in jail to find out later you haven’t done it. That’s the sad thing about it. It hasn’t stopped.”

The college placed Ahlers on paid leave and then fired him Thursday because he no longer reflected  the school’s values, the college said in a statement.

      1. Actually I grew up in the 80s and the 90s , it’s more like the other way around cops were always getting caught up in shooting unarmed minorities especially black men then placing evidence at the scene in order to avoid bad press , much like today .

          1. Its website indicates no member municipalities in Wyoming, or the Dakotas, so I’ll probably be spared being ICLEIed.
Maybe it is time to move where the police still serve and protect, and the people are well-regulated to replace them as needed.

  1. So now we are claiming that security guards, who are not cops or allowed to carry a gun, are cops. Any lie to further push the narrative. Do cops make mistakes. Yes. They are human and should be held accountable. As should dishonest journalists. No respect for Amber Randall and Daily Caller. Less respect for DailySheeple for spreading the liberal propaganda. And go to hell Draco.

      1. The guy WAS NOT A COP! The entire purpose of this article is to further paint police in a bad light, and he was a security guard (NOT POLICE). He was not supposed to have a gun. He had a gun, and lied when his dumb add shot himself. Did you read the article?

        1. I know he’s not a cop , the daily sheeple titled their article as such not the daily caller , and armed security guards are bonded in the same way as cops are , in some states if not all by the same agencies . And how is reporting on an armed idiot in positions of authority who misbehaved framing the whole field ?

        2. How do you know he wasn’t supposed to have a gun? Had his Second Amendment rights been suspended? Are you his attorney? In fact, do you know him or anything about him that isn’t in the article? Are you aware of the fact that police officers have the highest rate of accidental shootings and suicides of any population group?

          1. Your suicide stat is incorrect. It is the Transgender community that holds the title for suicidality. I am not sure about accidental shootings either. As a former member of the armed forces, I remember quite well the numerous times soldiers and their superiors would have an AD, (accidental discharge) but I’m sure it never gets reported beyond that particular command element.

          2. Most homosexuals are liberals, and most liberals are notoriously anti-gun, so where would the average anti-gun homosexual get a gun to commit suicide? Kindly cite your statistical premise, since it doesn’t seem to be based on firearm suicides.

          3. Sorry for the delayed response. My comment was based on your comment, “Are you aware of the fact that police officers have the highest rate of accidental shootings AND suicides of any population group?” This comment mentioned two exclusive statistics, however incorrect they may be. No explanation was given as to how or why police officers commit suicide, just that they do. Furthermore, I never mentioned the homosexual community, I stated that the Transgender community has the highest suicide rate of any group.

          4. Police officers frequently kill themselves for the same reason that dozens of military veterans do every month. Both have been involved in the extermination of a innocent family or group of people while following orders and they decide that they no longer have the right to live, after seeing what they have done, in person.
The military is having trouble retaining and recruiting pilots for drones for the same reason.

    1. I’ve known a lot of security guards that are allowed to carry guns. Have you ever been in a federal office building? Those guys aren’t cops or federal agents that search you and can arrest you if necessary. Most governments use private security wherever possible for plausible deniability.

    1. It’s not even clear whether or not he had a carry permit or was even supposed to be armed at work. VERY sloppy reporting all around.

  2. How the hell does a holstered handgun end up shooting the wearer in the shoulder?!? Maybe if he was spinning it a la Wild Bill Cody, that would mean he was screwing around with it on the job.

    1. “Buffalo Bill” Cody was never referred to as “Wild Bill.” You are confusing “Wild Bill” Hickock with “Buffalo Bill” Cody. Two completely different humans.

      1. Thanks for the correction, just trying to make the point that the officer was most likely careless in the handling of his firearm. He was most likely too embarrassed to admit it.

        1. Agreed. Too bad it cost him his job and his health, but also fortunate it didn’t cost him or anyone else their lives. That’s what happens when you play with a tool that’s designed to fling pieces of metal at high velocities. He would have been better off trying to juggle two running chainsaws. At least in that case there isn’t the potential to accidentally kill someone 50 yards away if you drop one of them.

  3. Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
If he had followed the rules and at least been honest about his folly, it may have gone better for him. And he didn’t have to add the the racial disparity in the nation, either. He needs help.

  4. What an idiot. Obviously this moron was screwing around with his gun and he shot himself. He’s lucky he didn’t shoot himself in the head.
Then, instead of owning up to his stupidity, he lies about it, and makes up a story. Classic stupidity.

    1. We would have been luckier if he had shot himself in the head, preventing future outbreaks of negligence. Police officers have higher rates of accidental shootings and suicide than the general population, which is another strong argument for returning to a well-regulated militia.

      1. I agree. But I don’t think this guy was a cop. I think he was a security guard. And I think he was supposed to be unarmed at the time.
But because he was an idiot, and he was screwing around with a loaded firearm, he shot himself. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to remove him from the gene pool. So it’s likely that he will reproduce, thus ensuring a future generation of idiots, which could have already happened.

        1. It says he is a security guard in the first sentence of the article. Are you stopping at the slugs? That is the informational equivalent of carrying an unloaded gun. I’d say that the slug editor is as much in need of removal from the gene pool as the security guard.
I’m a firm believer in the militia defined in the Second Amendment. I have seen to my own (well)regulation for all of my adult life. I have been known to stand in the middle of an intersection of 4 lane streets and direct traffic when the signals were out. In particular, one Xmas eve I was having coffee with a group of CBers at a Denny’s when the lights went out. We paid our tabs and fanned out to provide traffic control as dark intersections. I had been directing traffic for about 5 minutes when a police officer walked out to me to ask me about what I was doing. I told him what I’ve told you and he expressed surprise that I was willing to expose myself to the danger. He then asked if I needed relief. I told him that he had more important things to do than direct traffic on Xmas eve. He agreed and after thanking me, left. He and his CO came back the better part of an hour later, and we were repeating the previous conversation when signals came back on. They escorted me to my car, thanked me again, and left. Although I have never had to repeat this situation, I keep the equipment that I use to run a pilot car handy, so I can do better than before, if the need arises. If all of the keyboard commandos were willing to do likewise, we wouldn’t need as many arrogant public servants.

          1. Yeah, the headline was misleading. I wasn’t trying to break your balls about it. I know that your posts are more accurate and well thought out than a lot of others, including mine.
Things like that are what people should do as a part of the community. If more people were inclined to chip in and help out, we wouldn’t need so many public servants. In fact, if it wasn’t for all the ridiculous regulations and policies we have that forbid people from doing things for the community, there wouldn’t be such huge amounts of wasted money and absolutely outrageous costs for some of the public works projects and other things that the government spends way too much money on.
People could do a lot of the things that the government does, and for a tiny fraction of the cost.
For instance, after hurricanes and other natural disasters, the national guard and law enforcement officers are sent to the affected area to provide security and prevent looting. But it is very expensive to do so. How many millions of dollars do these people spend just to have a bunch of guys hanging around watching for thieves? The local citizens could do it for next to nothing, and they know the area much better than people from out of state, and they know the people better too since they are from the community. And they also know who the thieves and troublemakers are as well. So it makes much more sense to save millions of dollars and have people who are more qualified for the job.
I’ll never understand why the government is so inefficient and wasteful, yet people continue to pour their money into this bottomless pit.
