The end of the cold war did not eliminate the prospect of a conflict between the US and Russia – both nuclear-armed powers – indeed, in retrospect, it may have increased the chances of a catastrophic collision.
If the Trump administration succeeds in eliminating or lessening this possibility – over the loud protests of the War Party – then that is a cause for celebration.
