Here’s a bizarre story out of D.C.

A police affidavit says officers saw people – described as “habitual substance abusers” –  lined up in front of an apartment building on Wednesday.

But they weren’t there to buy drugs.

They were there to sell their blood.

Khoa Hoang Nguyen was paying people $30 to draw samples of their blood in an abandoned apartment in Washington, reports the AP.

Officers searched the third floor apartment and found large quantities of blood in storage, along with a lot of used needles, vials, and a ledger with 205 names on it.

A woman at the apartment told police that she and Nguyen had drawn blood from 20 people that day.

According to WUSA9, investigators said Nguyen told them he was working for a company called Boston Bio. But they say they’ve been unable to reach the company, and they say he didn’t have any documentation.

The D.C. Health Department told police that Nguyen was neither licensed to draw blood, nor following professional procedures.

Nguyen, 43, of Rockville, Maryland, was charged for practicing as a registered nurse without a license.

What Nguyen was planning to do with the blood has not been revealed.
