Editor’s Note: This would certainly lend credence to the argument some have made about the so-called first mission to the moon that that the crew never left earth’s orbit. In other news, isn’t CERN currently working on an experiment on a space radiation superconducting shield?

This video released by NASA about the upcoming Orion space exploration craft, shows a NASA scientist admitting that they still haven’t worked out how to properly shield the spacecraft from the radiation emitted from the Van Allen belts. (See minute 2:50.) Why is the high-radiation area of the Van Allen Belts still an issue if NASA used adequate shielding during the Apollo missions?
