Utah Legislator Proposes Declaring Porn an Official “Health Crisis”

While some people are laughing at him, Mormon Republican Senator Todd Weiler has proposed officially declaring porn a public “health crisis” in a move that is gaining traction. Weiler says people who compulsively view porn show the same brain patterns as drug addicts. He also says as teens and kids are viewing porn at younger and younger ages in this society, they are engaging in riskier sexual behaviors earlier and earlier.

Via the Charlotte Observer:

“It’s not just a kooky thing that some, you know, politician from Mormon Utah came up with,” Weiler said. “When I was a kid, people might sneak a Playboy magazine and look at it. Now, you’ve got all kinds of horrible, graphic images that are available to anyone with an Internet connection one or two clicks away.” …

“We are on fire with this problem,” said Sen. Kevin Van Tassell, R-Vernal. “It is becoming a terrible scourge in our society today.”

While the proposal doesn’t ban or regulate online porn, legislators are hoping if other states follow suit, the federal government will step in and force something to be done, for example, requiring ISPs to make pornography only accessible by subscriber opt-in.

And now for the twist ending:

Christian evangelist Josh McDowell funded a study which found that half of all teens and 3/4ths of all young adults come across porn monthly. Younger people are starting to watch porn earlier and earlier in their lives. And while all of this may not be a shocking finding these days with ease of Internet access, the study did come back with an interesting finding that definitely makes a statement on the social engineering (or destruction) of the value system of modern American youth.

Apparently today’s younger crowds find viewing porn much less immoral than not recycling. That’s right. That’s how solidly ingrained Al Gore’s green agenda is in the minds of today’s youth.
