U.S. Warships Targeted off Yemen – Defense Missiles Sent In Retaliation

After Yemen-based Houthi rebels targeted US Navy warships in the Red Sea, at least two missiles were launched in response, according to Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman.

The strike occurred between Eritrea and Yemen.

The Iranian-backed Shiite group, called Houthis, attempted to strike two warships, the USS Mason and the USS Ponce, but they missed their targets and the missiles dropped into the ocean. Two missiles were reportedly fired from the USS Mason at the coast of Yemen immediately after detecting the inbound cruise missiles.

“We want very much to get to the bottom of what happened. We’re going to find out who did this and we’ll take action accordingly,” Davis told reporters.

Davis believes that these attacks were launched by a Houthi-held territory in Yemen, which marks the first targeted strike from Yemen against US ships.
