Two Time Armed Robber’s Family Asks Why Armed Hero Thinks “it’s okay to just shoot someone”

The family of an armed robber believes that the Good Samaritan who stopped his crime should have simply ignored the plight of the customers and employees being held at gunpoint and gone on his merry way.

The family of an armed robber who was shot by a bystander is angry. They believe that the Good Samaritan should have simply ignored the plight of the customers and employees being held at gunpoint and gone on his merry way.

The saga started at a Family Dollar store in Mobile, Alabama. 18 year old Adric White was out on bond after being arrested for an armed offense at The Original Oyster House just a month previously, during which the restaurant manager was held at gunpoint and robbed of the night deposit.

Apparently, White was not deterred by having been caught and had opted to rob the Family Dollar. Unfortunately for White, he wasn’t the only person in the store with a gun.

A Good Samaritan is speaking to FOX10 News after he confronted a masked gunman and opened fire.

The customer, who we are not identifying for safety reasons, said he was shopping at the Family Dollar store along Stanton Road Tuesday, November 13 when he noticed a robber leading one of the employees to the front of the store.

Instead of hiding or running away, the man said he reached for his gun and moved closer. He said the crook was demanding money.

“He had him (the employee) on his knees with the gun to his head,” the customer told FOX10. “I drew my gun on him and I said, ‘Hey – don’t move!’ At that point, he swung around and before he had a chance to aim the gun at me, I fired.”

The customer said he never thought twice about getting involved, even though his daughter and girlfriend were waiting in his vehicle parked outside the store.

“It was just instinct. It happened so quickly. I didn’t want to shoot him, but when I saw him swing around so fast I didn’t want to get shot either,” he recalled.

The suspected robber was shot five times and taken to USA Medical Center, where authorities said he is recovering. (source)

Although the people held at gunpoint were probably quite pleased to have been rescued, White’s family does not feel that the Good Samaritan’s actions were justified. They believe that he should have just walked away and minded his own business.

“If his (the customer) life was not in danger, if no one had a gun up to him, if no one pointed a gun at him – what gives him the right to think that it’s okay to just shoot someone?” said the relative. “You should have just left the store and went wherever you had to go in your car or whatever.” (source)
