Armageddon Scenarios

Two Large Sunspots Harbor M-Class Energy

A CME propelled into space by the M5-class explosion of May 22nd is expected to deliver a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field on May 24th. NOAA forecasters estimate a 55% chance of polar geomagnetic storms when the cloud arrives.

Todays sunspot number is 117 and two of those sunspots, AR1755 and AR1756 harbour the beta-gamma magnetic energy required to produce M-Class Flares. Their position on the Suns eastern limb, one north and one south means that any flares would not hit Earth directly but would give us a glancing blow that would likely be geo-effective and lead to high latitude auroras.

NOAA estimate a 45% chance of that happening during the next 24 hours, and a 15% chance of an X-Class flare during the same period..
