Trump Promises to Militarize Police Even More

MPSGA, folks, MPSGA. For the novice among us, that means “Make Police States Great Again.” Sure, you’ve seen all those MAGA hats, but there was a serious typo when President Donald Trump first ordered those hats. President Trump told the hat provider that he wanted the hats to say “Make Police States Great Again.”

He even came up with a clever little jingle to go along with what as originally going to be his campaign theme. It went something like this:

Make Police States Great Again
A Boot To The Face, is your Best Friend
Make Police States Great Again
If You Stomp on Muh Flag, I’ll Shoot You Then.

But alas, the hat providers NATURALLY assumed when he said Police State he must have meant America, so they printed up the hats to say MAGA, Make America (and just assumed people would automatically think Police State) great again.

President Trump, being the innovator that he is, decided to go ahead and run with it, and thus MAGA was formed.  Of course, this is all parody, folks, but how far from the truth is it really?

A recent report by the Associated Press is claiming they have access to documents that reveal President Trump will be signing an executive order to undo an Obama directive which limited the type of military surplus gear that police departments can purchase.

Some of the limits include armored vehicles, grenade launchers, certain types of bullet-proof vests, riot shields, certain types of firearms, and also certain types of ammunition. The limitations, according to AP’s claim, would be lifted by the Trump executive order.

Yep, you got that right. Police Departments were once able to buy automatic .50 cals, seriously-kill-mass-amounts-of-people hand grenades, and many more lovely war-like gears, because nothing says protect and serve like having an automatic .50 cal pointed at a crowd peacefully assembling to protest your excessive use of force.

The executive order may be signed this week, with Attorney General Jeff Sessions expected to give a speech today, August 28th, about the upcoming action. I guess the strategy will be to gradually prepare you for the reality that this President intends on fully militarizing the police, as if a speech by Jeff  “Oh My God Pot Will Kill Us All” Sessions will somehow smooth over the jarring news that the police will soon, once again, have access to the same gear ‘we’ used to kill hundreds of thousands of people in lands that just weren’t freedoming right, so we freedom’d for them.

The original directive came in 2015, as a response to the Ferguson protests and riots where police were seen heavily armed, with assault rifles pointed at crowds. Anyone remember what that looked like? It literally looked like the streets of Iraq, except instead of desert khaki, they went police-state ninja black.

During the campaign, then-candidate Donald Trump, responding to a written questionnaire from the Fraternal Order of Police, promised to cancel the Obama order, lifting the restrictions on the types of gear that police departments could purchase. The program began in 1990 under then-President George HW Bush, another man who attempted to Make Police States Great Again.

Many folks see this for what it is, a way to work around this (thanks Wikipedia):

“The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. § 1385, original at 20 Stat. 152) signed on June 18, 1878 by President Rutherford B. Hayes. The purpose of the act – in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807 – is to limit the powers of the federal government in using federal military personnel to enforce domestic policies within the United States. It was passed as an amendment to an army appropriation bill following the end of Reconstruction, and was subsequently updated in 1956 and 1981.”

That’s right, that’s just a little law that was intended to prevent the Federal Government from using the military against citizens. Why worry about using the military against citizens when you can simply militarize the police AND derive loyalty from those same local police by offering them continued access to toys and funds that bring that “Dayum it feels good to be a gangsta, but a state-approved and protected gangsta” warm fuzzy deep inside your thin-blue-line-flag-wearing self.

So here we are, Making Police States Great Again. Welcome to Trump’s MPSGA.
