A powerful tornado has ripped through the state of Mississippi leaving dozens of people hurt and hundreds of homes destroyed reports the Associated Press. This comes just 24 hours after a major snow storm killed 10 people and caused huge amounts of disruption in the North east of the country.

The city of Hattiesburg sustained the most damage, and 10 people were injured in Forest County. The town of Petal saw over 100 homes destroyed but so far there have been no reports of fatalities.

In neighboring state Alabama seven tornadoes hit one of which damaged 46 homes in Clark County. Hospitals are currently dealing with a high volume of ‘walking wounded’ in both areas.
