Todays sunspot number is 74

At 1550UT a newly emerged sunspot let rip with the most powerful flare so far this year. Sunspot AR1675 produced an M1.9 class flare. The flare did not produce a CME.

There is a long slit like hole in the corona of the sun and a solar wind blowing from this will reach Earth on Feb 21st.

Todays sunspot number is 74 and the chance of further flares in the next 24 hours is considered by NASA to be 15% for M class and 0.1% for X class flares.
