Sunspot AR1875 is still growing and has developed a beta-gamma-delta magnetic field. It’s this combination of magnetism that gives rise to X-class flares.
Ar1875 is moving across the Sun disc, and for the next 24-48 hours any flares would be Earth directed. NOAA estimates the chance of an X-class flare occurring during the next 48 hours at 5% and the chance of an M-class at 30% during the same period.
Todays sunspot number is 228.
There are no coronal holes on the Earthside of the Sun at present.
