Sunburn Art: “Cool” New Trend of Burning Outlines into Your Skin Raises Chances of Cancer 50%

From the What Stupid Thing Are People Doing Now? Dept. —

The hip, happening, trendy new trend this summer is apparently to draw designs or company logos on one’s skin with sunscreen and sit out in the sun until the skin around it burns the design in.

It’s called “sunburn art,” and apparently it increases one’s chances of melanoma 50% and causes people’s skin to age that much faster. The whole point is to get severe sunburns to seal in the designs.

Aside from just sounding incredibly stupid, most people likely do not realize that many over-the-counter sunscreens sold at big box stores are filled with carcinogenic, free-radical producing chemicals of their own, and everything we put on our skin bypasses our toxin-filtering liver to be directly 90% absorbed by our skin which is the largest organ in our bodies.

In other words, it’s like cancer with an extra dose of cancer smeared on top. Sounds fun.

Guess this is at least a smidge better than last year’s trend of setting one’s self on fire and posting a video of it on YouTube.
