“We are paying him to bring in certified deputies here, not to bring a circus and not to use our town as a political platform”

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who is no stranger to controversy, has called in steven Seagal to train volunteer school security staff in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting. Arpaio, who calls himself “America’s Toughest Sheriff”has put together an armed posse to defend Phoenix schools against shooters.

A mock-up of a shooting scenario took place at a closed school in fountain Heights on Saturday with Seagal there to lead, training the posse in hand-to-hand combat techniques, and other tactics that he draws from his martial arts background.

Chad Campbell (D-Arizona)  blasted the scheme as “ludicrous” asking why not “call in Bruce Willis and Clint Eastwood while we’re at it”

The posse, who are uniformed, armed and drive marked vehicles will only enter a school if they spot danger. The scheme had attracted a fair amount of criticism even before Hollywood became involved. Local town councillor Andrew Sanchez said he wants nothing to do with the scheme.

“We are paying him to bring in certified deputies, not to bring a circus and not to use our town as a political platform”

He is quoted as saying recently. Lou Ferringno, star of the Hulk TV series is also have though to have signed up for the scheme, as is Perter Lupus from Mission Impossible.
