Snopes Wife Claims Husband Embezzled Thousands and Spent It on Prostitutes — But Hey, They’ll Tell Us What “Fake News” Is?!

You’ve got to wonder if David Mikkelson and his entourage will “fact check” and call this Daily Mail article a hoax too…

Well, this just takes the big fat hypocrite cake.

Out today, the Daily Mail is reporting that Snopes, the supposed bastion of fact checking, is no longer the picture perfect “independent” (yeah right) husband and wife myth-busting couple just lounging around on the couch with their cat that they have claimed to be.

Snopes founders, former husband and wife David and Barbara Mikkelson

Gee… Where to begin…

According to court documents, Barbara Mikkelson is claiming that her now-ex-husband David embezzled $98,000 of company money and spent it on “himself and prostitutes”:

Apparently he was “compelled” to return $9,000 of the money by another legal stipulation per their lengthy and contentious divorce.

The Mail reports that David is currently running Snopes with his new wife who has spent most of her life working as an adult model, porn star, and escort under the name Erin O’Bryn:

And the accusations are flying:

They are accusing each other of financial impropriety, with Barbara claiming her ex-husband is guilty of ’embezzlement’ and suggesting he is attempting a ‘boondoggle’ to change tax arrangements, while David claims she took millions from their joint accounts and bought property in Las Vegas…

In court records, Barbara alleged that her ex-husband removed thousands from their business accounts between April and June of 2016 to pay for trips for him and his ‘girlfriend’.  She claimed he spent nearly $10,000 on a 24-day ‘personal vacation’ in India this year and expensed his girlfriend’s plane ticket to Buenos Aires.

‘He’s been depleting the corporate account by spending monies from it on his personal expenses,’ said Barbara in a filing last June. She added that he needed to be suspended from using the company checkbook and debit card ‘right away before there are no funds left in the corporate account’.

David and his attorneys countered that the India visit was a legitimate business trip, and that he only expensed a fraction – 22.5 per cent – of the total cost of the excursion.  He said he was considering setting up a fact-checking website in India, and wanted to get a sense of the culture. He also said he went to Buenos Aires to attend an international fact-checking conference…

A “fact-checking conference”…? Yeah, sure.

Apparently David was mad his $240,000 salary wasn’t high enough, either:

One major point of contention was David’s 2016 salary – which Barbara was responsible for approving.  David wanted his salary raised from $240,000 to $360,000 – arguing that this would still put him below the ‘industry standards’ and that he should be paid up to $720,000 a year.

This goes on and on and on… but it continues by pointing out that one of their main “fact checkers” Kim LaCapria “has also been a sex-and-fetish blogger who went by the pseudonym ‘Vice Vixen’.”

[LaCapria] described her blog as a lifestyle website ‘with a specific focus on naughtiness, sin, carnal pursuits, and general hedonism and bonne vivante-ery.’

She regularly provided intimate advice and reviewed sex toys, including a vibrating wand that ‘drives boys mad.’ In others posts, LaCapria claimed to be ‘addicted to smutty HP [Harry Potter] fanfic.’

Describing her day-off activities on another blog, she wrote that she ‘played scrabble, smoked pot, and posted to Snopes.’ She added, ‘That’s what I did on my day “on,” too.’

…all of which sounds a hell of a lot more legitimate than the work this woman does at Snopes.

Barbara and David both refused to comment on the Mail’s story:

When contacted by the Dailymail.com, David said he was legally prohibited from discussing his ex-wife’s allegations.  ‘I’d love to respond, but unfortunately the terms of a binding settlement agreement preclude me from publicly discussing the details of our divorce,’ he said. Barbara Mikkelson said: ‘No comment.’

Now we’re told Snopes has become part of the “fact checking” cadre that will weed out so-called “fake news” on Facebook?

Oh goodie. Sounds legit.

This expose comes on the heels of the Daily Caller taking Snopes’ entire left-leaning crew to task just a few days ago, pointing out how obviously liberal and biased all of them are with specifics for each employee in a piece titled, “Snopes, Which Will Be Fact-Checking For Facebook, Employs Leftists Almost Exclusively”:

Almost all of the writers churning out fact checks for Snopes have a liberal background, and many of them have expressed contempt for Republican voters. The Daily Caller could not identify a single Snopes fact-checker who comes from a conservative background. Snopes did not respond to a list of questions from TheDC regarding the site’s ideological leaning.

When you go down the list, it becomes pretty obvious what side Snopes is sitting on in the bias bus.

You’ve got to wonder if David Mikkelson and his entourage will “fact check” and call this Daily Mail article a hoax too…
