Sky News has likened typhoon survivors to zombies. They have aired pictures of shocked and devastated Filipinos walking along a mud covered road with the caption “Zombie-like survivors trudge along roads thick with mud.”
These individuals, shocked by the ferocity of the storm and the utter devastation it has caused, are wandering around barely able to put one foot in front of the other let alone work out what to do next.
Desparate people have begun scavenging for food and medication and looting of some shops has begun as international aid agencies fear up to 10,000 people may have lost their lives, and some nine million people have been directly affected by the storm.
“This area has been totally ravaged”, said Sebastien Sujobert, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Tacloban.
“Many lives were lost, a huge number of people are missing, and basic services such as drinking water and electricity have been cut off.” (source)
