Since midnight there has been a series of earthquakes, increasing in intensity, in the Northeast part of the country.

The island country of Japan has sustained another large earthquake, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. No tsunami warning has been issued.

The coordinates of today’s biggest quake are 141.54 E and 38.4 N.

The coordinates for Fukushima  141.37 E and 37.4 N.

The distance between the 5.8  quake and the disabled nuclear reactors of Fukushima Daiichi is approximately 231 miles (372 kilometers).

The epicenter of the earthquake was off the coast of Miyagi prefecture,  northeast of Tokyo, where buildings also shook from the quake.

Since midnight last night, there have been numerous earthquakes in the area:

  • Ryukyu Island 5.0 at 7:43 BST
  • Ryukyu Island 5.1 at 8:26 BST
  • Honshu 5.6 at 9:57 BST
  • Ryukyu Islands 5.0 at 12:11 BST
  • Honshu 5.9 at 1:03 BST

Prior to the earthquake that disabled the Fukushima facility, causing massive leakage of nuclear waste into the Pacific Ocean, there were dozens of foreshocks between 4.9-6.0 on the Richter Scale.
