Just a day after a suicide bomb attack in the Russian city of Volgograd, a second attack has killed at least 12 people and injured more than 20 others.

The toll from the first attack has risen to 17 dead overnight, and doctors have said that figure may rise in the coming days.

The latest attack, on a trolley bus, happened near a busy market that is also in Volgograd. Maksim Akhmetov, a Russian TV reporter who was at the scene of the explosion described the scene as :

“Terrible, the bus was ravaged” and that there were “bodies everywhere, blood on the snow” (source)

Moscow is concerned that militant groups are behind the violence and that the winter Olympic Games in Sochi will be targeted.
