San Miguel Volcano El Salvador, Explodes

San Miguel is one of 29 volcanoes world wide that are currently actively erupting, a further 29 have minor activity associated with them and 79 are in a state of unrest.

Thousands of people in El Salvador have been evacuated after the San Miguel volcano erupted on Sunday morning.

Residents reported hearing a loud explosion immediately before the volcano started spewing hot ash and smoke into the air.

Approximately 5000 people live in the immediate vicinity of the volcano which last erupted in 2002.
