San Diego Border Patrol sees 60% increase in apprehensions since Oct 2018

Since October 1, 2018 the US Border Patrol in the San Diego sector has apprehended over 37,00 people crossing the border illegally, which is a 60% increase over the previous fiscal year.

The Border Patrol states that over half of those apprehended are from countries other than Mexico, but did not provide a list of where the “other than Mexican” were from.

Over 30% are claiming to be families. Until the new rapid DNA process is underway they are having a hard time verifying familial claims.

Loopholes have forced over 12,000 to be released into U.S. communities while they await a court date. The CBP did not have statistics on how many of those released actually show up for their court dates.

The San Diego Sector encompasses 56,831 square miles including 931 miles of coastal border from the California border with Mexico north to Oregon. San Diego Sector’s primary operational area of responsibility consists of 7,000 square miles including 60 linear miles of international boundary with Mexico and 114 coastal border miles along the Pacific Ocean. The San Diego Sector encompasses coastal beaches and expansive mesas that lead to coastal and inland mountains, rugged canyons, and high desert. Directly south of San Diego lie the Mexican cities of Tijuana and Tecate, Baja California, which have a combined population of more than four and a half million people.
