Pop quiz: Who made the following statements?

“These last few years, we’ve seen an unacceptable abuse of power, having a president whose priority is expanding his own power.”

“One of the most important jobs of the Supreme Court is to guard against the encroachment of the executive branch on the power of the other branches, and I think the Chief Justice has been a little too willing and eager to give the president more power than I think Congress or the Constitution originally intended.”

“What do we do with a president who can basically change what Congress passed by attaching a letter saying ‘I don’t agree’ with this part or that part?”

“I taught the Constitution for ten years, I believe in the Constitution.”

The answer?

Senator Barack Obama.

During a passionate speech before the House, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) pointed out those statements from then-Senator Obama, and asked the following questions:

“How does going from being a senator to a president rewrite the Constitution? What’s different from when he was a senator? Mr. Speaker, I don’t think there’s an amendment to the Constitution that I’ve missed. I try to keep up with those with regularity.”

Gowdy is the writer and sponsor of the ENFORCE the Law Act, which passed the House 233-181. The bill says that when either the House or Senate passes a resolution finding that a president is failing to execute a law, lawmakers will have legal standing to sue in federal court, with a speedy appeal to the Supreme Court.

Believe it or not, King Obama has threatened to veto the bill if it reaches his desk.

House Speaker John A. Boehner said, “The fact that the president would threaten to veto a measure requiring him to uphold his Constitutional obligations underscores why this bill is needed, and why Senate Democrats should pass it immediately.”

Here’s the fiery speech Gowdy delivered on the House floor:

Gowdy’s words are a breath of fresh air – it is refreshing to see a politician standing up for the Constitution and pointing out Obama’s hypocrisy.
