Rep. Ilhan Omar denies affair claim in D.C. doctor’s divorce filing

The wife of a leading left-wing Democrat has alleged that her husband has been having a monthslong affair with Rep. Ilhan Omar, who is married.

Beth Jordan Mynett said her political consultant husband, Tim Mynett, told her in April that he was in a relationship with the Minnesota Democrat, according to a divorce filing obtained by the New York Post.

The filing was submitted Tuesday in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.

“The parties physically separated on or about April 7, 2019, when Defendant told Plaintiff that he was romantically involved with and in love with another woman, Ilhan Omar,” the divorce filing says.

The 55-year-old physician and her husband, 38, have a 13-year-old son. The couple married in 2012 and had been living together since 2006. Omar, 37, lives in Minneapolis with her husband and their three children, the youngest of whom is seven.

Beth Mynett is seeking primary custody of their son, citing her husband’s “extensive travel” with the congresswoman. Omar’s campaign has paid Tim Mynett’s consulting firm E Street Group more than $200,000 since 2018.

“Defendant’s more recent travel and long work hours now appear to be more related to his affair with Rep. Omar than with his actual work commitments,” the divorce filing alleges.

The physician argued her husband had put their son “in harm’s way” because Omar has “garnered a plethora of media attention along with death threats.” The filing stated: “By way of example, days prior to Defendant’s devastating and shocking declaration of love for Rep. Omar and admission of their affair, he and Rep. Omar took the parties’ son to dinner in order to formally meet for the first time at the family’s favorite neighborhood restaurant while Plaintiff was out of town.”

She has requested full control of their home, child support, and reimbursement for legal costs.

Omar’s own marriage has been under scrutiny amid allegations that she married her brother and committed immigration fraud.

The freshman congresswoman married her husband, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, in 2002 during a faith ceremony, but did not legally marry at the time. The couple had two children before they separated in 2008. The next year, Omar legally married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. The two split in 2011, the same year Omar and Hirsi reconciled but did not legally divorce until 2017. Omar and Hirsi had a third child together in 2012 and legally married in early 2018.
