Rep. Amash Announces Plans to Introduce Bill to Curtail NSA Spying

The National Security Administration (NSA) has made the news once again; actually, they haven’t really left the news in months, considering NSA contractor-turned-whistleblower Edward Snowden just keeps on releasing more and more damning documents on their top secret surveillance programs.

The most recent involved the agency swallowing up people’s email contact books wholesale to the tune of some 500,000 email addresses every day (Americans’ addresses included).

Now, Representative Justin Amash has taken to social media, announcing on Facebook that he, in conjunction with Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner and Rep. John Conyers, will soon introduce a bipartisan bill to “significantly curtail” the NSA’s wholesale spying on Americans (which is in complete disregard for the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution).

At the same time, Senator Patrick Leahy is apparently going to issue a companion bill in the Senate.

This is something Rep. Amash has tried before; last time, his bill to prevent the NSA from stealing everyone’s phone record metadata only failed by a measly 12-vote margin. Maybe this time, with all the new revelations that have happened in the months since, Amash and the others will finally be able to get that last dozen votes to actually effect some sort of change.

Out of 535 people who swore an oath to the Constitution when they took office — an office they are supposed to be assuming as public servants who represent the people (not lobbyists and/or mega corporations) — it is about time someone (anyone!) is going to at least attempt to do something official about the Big Brother takeover of this country.

With every single Snowden leak, reality sinks a little further into the collective American consciousness that our Constitution is essentially being straight-up ignored by the alphabet agencies within our government and our freedoms are being collectively sucked into the giant corporate front our government has essentially become.

I mean, you know it’s bad when the president of Mexico is releasing press statements that he’s, ya know, a little miffed about our NSA reading his emails.
