Rare Footage of Robert Wadlow, the Tallest Man in History (Video)

At 8 feet 11.1 inches tall, Robert Wadlow (1918-1940) became famous as the tallest person in recorded history for whom there is irrefutable evidence.

His great size (he weighed 491 lbs at the time of his death) and his continued growth in adulthood were due to hyperplasia of his pituitary gland, which results in an abnormally high level of human growth hormone.

He showed no indication of an end to his growth even at the time of his death at age 22.

The following video is rare color footage of the “Giant of Illinois”.

This home movie clip appears to have been taken during one of Wadlow’s personal appearances in the late 1930s.
