Putin Admits to Providing Material Support For Assad

After recent reports claimed that Russian combat troops were present in Syria, Putin responded on a state run news channel that Russia was not providing direct military support to the Assad regime. He did however, confess to Russia’s current involvement in the war torn nation, while also refusing to rule out the possibility of putting boots on the ground in the future. “To say we’re ready to do this today — so far it’s premature to talk about this. But we are already giving Syria quite serious help with equipment and training soldiers, with our weapons.”

The timing of his admission coincided with Washington’s claims that Russia is ramping up its support for Assad. Anonymous intelligence officials have suggested that Russia is preparing to build a military base in the Syrian port city of Lakatia. They claim that an air traffic control tower has been built near an airfield, along with several prefab structures that would house 1000 personnel.

White House Spokesman Josh Earnest commented on the matter, saying “Any military support to the Assad regime for any purpose, whether it’s in the form of military personnel, aircraft supplies, weapons or funding, is both destabilizing and counterproductive.” He conveniently omitted the fact that our own government helped foster the creation of ISIS with the intention of destabilizing the region.
